This ILLUMINATING RED SIGNAL is used to signal a danger or an accident, by night or day, after an extremely short set-up time. It is mostly used in foggy weather, on railroads, level crossings, highways, or as runway lighting on improvised or unequipped airfields, etc.

Composition

1 - A cylinder containing the illuminating composition
2 - A sealed ignition system with striker attached to the torch
3 - A match and a friction block for emergency lighting
4 - A waterproof plastic case with secure opening

Pulling on the ring releases the striker which hits the primer. This ignites a transmission charge. Gases propel the ignition system and simultaneously fire the illuminating composition. System safety is ensured by the emergency igniter and friction block.
